I’m back at it again, trying to get things gone through and I’m finally done with the kitchen. Today’ it is going to be the dining room which has more cupboards as well as the China hutch. That is unless I talk myself out of it and hold off on it for another day.
My biggest problem is deciding what to do with stuff. Even if I decide I don’t want it, then what to do with it? I’m not interested in having any garage sales, so that most likely means lugging it to the Goodwill or some other charity shop that will take the items.
But there are some items that have sentimental value, and I struggle with the idea of whether to keep it, give it to another family member or just putting it back in the drawer for now. Especially when it comes to mom’s jewelry. Now mom didn’t have a lot of it, but still there are items such as her wedding ring, engagement ring, and a couple of other rings she wore from time to time. Earrings, bracelets, watches, necklaces, etc, along with dad’s tie tacks, belt buckles, and other assorted little bits one finds in a jewelry chest.
I am not even sure if any of her rings will fit, I haven’t tried any of them on, it just feels a bit weird to do so. To tell the truth, I am sure they will have to be resized because her hands changed over the years. Even though she was a petite woman, her hands were ravaged from arthritis, and she had swollen knuckles and joints that made it hard to get her rings off and on. I’m not sure what size they are, and heck, I am not even sure what size ring I wear now.

It had me wondering then if shoe sizes and ring sizes are the same for a lot of people? My hands haven’t really changed much but my feet have. So if they were ever the same size at one time, they certainly aren’t now. Which then got me to wondering what about wrist sizes? Can you have big fingers and small wrists, or big wrists and small fingers and well then of course, Google came in.
Looking at all sorts of charts, I find it amazing that wrist sizes are as big as they are. Just looking at my wrist, it’s hard to believe that a small wrist is 6 inches. That is half a foot! It doesn’t seem possible, but yet that is considered a small wrist size.

So now my curiosity is peaked. Ring size, wrist size, shoe size… how close are they to each other and are they similar or wildly different? I look at my hands and I know I have my father’s hands. Thankfully arthritis has not affected my joints, or at least not yet to where it is visible. Time will tell on that front, and I know that most likely for now, the jewelry will all go back in the drawer at least for a little while. But I know before the end of the day, curiosity will have the better of me and I will be checking out my ring size, getting a string to measure my wrist and see if they are even close. If they aren’t, I am going to feel like such a Neanderthal.
Don’t even get me started on ankle bracelets. So, bloggers do you know the size of it all? Have you noticed changes in your hands, wrists, feet, etc? Are they similar? Or are you fearing you could be a descendent of Bigfoot too?
The things I think of,… anything to get out of tackling those dishes.
First of all…do not get rid of the jewelry. You’ll regret it.
Why not get all the siblings/spouses etc. over to see if there is anything they want [after you have packed up everything you know you want]?
As for getting rid of stuff, I imagine any of those ‘helping the homeless’ type place would come get anything you might want to donate.
Now…go take a nap, we’ve worked way too hard this morning.
I’ve already told my brothers to feel free to take anything they gave mom and if they don’t want it maybe their kids will.
I’m not sure what I would do with the wedding ring and engagement ring. She also has a mother’s ring which I wouldn’t ever wear. First off, I have to see if any of her rings or bracelets fit.
I’ll be back later to post if they do and what the string measure says, and if I have abnormally big fingers or wrists, lol.
I inherited my Mom’s wedding rings…my nephew asked me if he could give his fiancé Mom’s engagement ring, so I let him have it…Mom was a Coleman, he is a Coleman, so it stays in the family. Just a thought…
Also, around here, anyway, are thrift shops that will come to the house and assess anything you want to get rid of, pay for it, and haul it away…maybe you have someone like that there?
[this is more than I have typed at any one time in ages…now I need a nap]…
Okay finally sat down to measure with a string to see my wrist size….which is 6.5…(but now I am wondering if the other wrist is the same size?)
Ring size is a size 8…the size of shoe I use to wear, but now my feet have grown a size bigger…or maybe shoes have just gotten smaller?
You are becoming a bit obsessive…😕
Depending on whether you are left or right handed…the one you use the most will probably be bigger than the other…same goes for your feet…meaning which foot you start off walking with…but, generally speaking, what side you use the most will be bigger…
I’m right handed, so my right hand [and foot] are bigger than the left…
Well that is true because you do build up those muscles from the constant use of them. Good point!
