This video is from nine years ago, it’s one of the first ones they did. The way they did it is pretty funny, they start out playing chamber music for an audience in period dress. The music changes, the audience doesn’t, and it isn’t amused which is half the fun.
Sort of like when Michael J Fox gets really into the music back in the fifties and the audience looks at him like he has gone insane, which is probably where they got the idea from
Anyway, these two were opening for Elton John back in the day, they’ve been headlining tours since then. They put out a number of really interesting videos based on the incongruous music they play.
Update: Apparently they broke up the act in 2022. Ya snooze ya loose I guess. Here is an article about them:
Hilarious!! Sounded like at any moment they were going to break out into “The Orange Blossom Special”! Those old biddies were reaching for their smelling salts, but the younger ones were loving it!
Very cool! I will have to google them, to see/hear more of their work!
They have quite a few videos, couple of concert footages, I was actually surprised to hear they broke up last year, though 10 years of that kind of stuff is probably enough. One of them seems to have attracted a following in the millions as a solo artist.
I’d be curious as to how much it cost them to make the video…all those people in period costumes couldn’t be cheap…
I’ve got more than a sneaking suspicion that the full auditorium scenes are stock footage from somewhere else that they linked in with post-production work. If you look at it more closely when they are panning across the audience is is always quick and out of focus and probably the same shot. They dressed up a couple of people to look like that crowd and did the close ups of them. It wasn’t a cheap production either way, but I don’t think they hired a whole auditorium of people dressed in period clothes as extras.
