Music Monday

Today’s Music Monday is a song I chose from a band called “We the Ghost”. I know some of you will remember an old garden chatter named “Jim Woodcrvr”, his son Jimmy was in this band and their song and album was a huge hit and they actually won several awards and seemed like they were on the road to huge success. After a few years, they burnt out and disbanded which was quite a shame as they seemed to be on the cusp of something really big.

The song “Let Me Know” put them on the map, it is a bit of a mix of rock with some reggae. The whole album is actually pretty good and you can find a lot of their old songs on Youtube under the lead singer “Beau Tyler”.

After they broke up, Beau Tyler formed another band that lasted for a very short time called “The X Oh’s”. I’ve included one of the songs they did which was a remake of Rihanna’s “Stay”. I actually like their version better than Rihannas. You can read more about “We the Ghost” here: We the Ghost – Wikipedia

The Peony Saga

Memorial Day was always a big deal for my grandmother. Many times we went with her when we were kids to help her visit all of the cemeteries to leave flowers on the graves on passed loved ones. It would involve driving to different towns and out into the country to visit both sides of the family, hers and grandpas.

Yesterday was a quiet day and one of my brothers took mom out to the cemetery to visit my dad’s grave. It had been a couple years since she had been out there, and while they were there, my brother took a picture of the gravesite. Why you ask? Because somehow, somewhere, something happened to the peony that was planted on his grave 25 years ago, was no longer there.

Cue the mystery. It had been there, it grew, bloomed for years, and then yesterday, nary a stem, or remnant of its very existence. Which leaves us all perplexed as to what happened to the peony? Was it killed by chemical drift from a local farmer? Was it buried, run over by equipment when another nearby burial site was excavated? Was it admired a bit too much and made its way home with someone? No one knows for sure what happened, and one can only guess.

It bothered me though. More than it should have, it’s just a flower, just a plant out in a country cemetery. But it was a flower/plant/memorial to a loved one that was to be a constant reminder they mattered to someone, and for those years when visits couldn’t be made, there would still be a flower memorial to them, for them, and for us that still remain.

So I will be looking for a new peony this fall to plant. Hopefully this one will last longer, at least past my lifetime or I will go haunting.

Gardening/plant people aren’t very forgiving at times, at least this one isn’t.

Music Monday – Remembering TMR

Today’s song is from Trumaskedrabbit’s play list on Yourtube. I knew TMR otherwise known as Trudi from Multiply. I was also connected to her on Facebook til her passing several years ago. I saw over on Shmoozezone that there was a maskedrabbit as well, but that person was no longer on Shmoozezone when I joined up so I am not sure if it was the same person, but I am going to assume it was a distinct possibility.

TMR (Trudi) was a Canadian exobiologist of Russian heritage, who worked with the manned mission to Mars. Most of her Yourtube videos are of a scientific nature, so if you are a science buff, feel free to peruse her Youtube channel to watch a few of them. Trudi was also an animal lover and posted a lot about her cats, two Bernese mountain dogs, and a bird or two. I think her old blog on Blogger is still up as well.

The following video is one of her earliest ventures into video making.

They’re Here!

Just a reminder that most areas should be seeing some hummingbird activity. With the odd spring we have been having, I am surprised to see them show up on time. I hung up a couple of feeders yesterday and they were visited in less than 5 minutes. I’ll have to get out the rest of the feeders today and some more nectar made later.

Reminder that to make hummingbird food, it is 4 parts water to 1 part granulated sugar. Do not use brown sugar or honey, and please do NOT use red food coloring. Bring the water and sugar to a boil and boil a couple of minutes and then allow to cool completely before filling the feeders.

It’s overcast here this morning with rain predicted later, I’ll try and capture a pic or two if the weather and time allows.
