No Designated Title

I think it is more than a whisper.

The days here lately have been warm, in fact tomorrow we will be in the 80’s and then in a day or two the rain will move in and the temps will plummet.

Fall is such a lazy season with its drifting leaves, changing hues, hazy mornings with glimpses of shorter days to come.

It brings crisp mornings, late harvests, all things pumpkin and a rush of preparations. For holidays, for weather changes, for time changes.

There are a million things I could blog about. Fall bulb plantings, last of the flower blooms, comforting family recipes. I could skip the whole fall theme completely and blog on the current state of the world, of the economy, of the political landscape. I could blog on things past, present, or future. I could even repeat old blog posts, but to what purpose? To recapture a time, a moment, a feeling? Nope, things change, and one has to be willing to accept and deal with those changes.

This past week-end, my mom’s brothers and sisters all got together. It had been a while, and sadly it may be their last time all together. Age, failing health, distance, they all play a part in separation. And people, like the falling leaves, quietly drift away.

I’ve got a million things to do this fall. Winterize windows and doors, put up garden hoses after some watering, two large totes of iris that still need to be planted after a late, unplanned move. Tools sharpened and put away, hummingbird feeders washed and stored, along with bulbs and rhizomes from the planters. Walnuts gathered, plants pulled, cages and outdoor furniture stacked and tucked in the garage.

It’s all there waiting on me, with a silent plea to hurry. And I can’t seem to make myself hurry. Days are the same, but they are a blur. Time rushes and time stands still. The phone rings constantly, and yet remains silent with its answers. Lots to do, lots to think about, lots to shuffle and talk about, and lots to keep to myself.

I keep waiting for time, for dates to pass, to be able to make better, informed decisions. But those dates and time come and go with nary the knowledge to help me on those decisions. Maybe they don’t require my decision at all, or those decisions will be made despite my best efforts, on their own.

Tomorrow will be a busy day, I have a lot of work planned, but I will try and log on here and post for Music Monday. My day will start at 5:30 a.m. and how it goes from there remains to be seen. It will be a long day, it will be a long week. Hopefully I can postpone my hibernation tendencies for a few more days until I feel like I have done enough.

MM

A little nostalgia for today’s Music Monday. Some Elvis Presley. I can’t think of any artist today that even comes close to the talent and charisma. No lip synching here, don’t think you can say that about most concerts in our present day.

Have a favorite song? Feel free to post it for Music Monday!

MM and a Cat

Nahi asked me the other day how the cat was doing, so I am throwing in this pic for her as a bonus for this Music Monday blog. As you can see, the cat has determined that the clothes basket is a good spot for hanging out. For the moment it’s filled with old clothes and towels so I can’t be too upset. I plan on getting a second clothes basket, so there won’t be any tussling over the current one… we will see how that goes.

For music Monday, a very popular Gary Allan song from a few years ago with a nice message for us all to remember.

MM – Ode to Joy

Something a little different for today’s Music Monday. A flashmob rendition of Ode to Joy. Now whether this is a true flashmob, I am unsure. I read somewhere that it may actually be a commercial for a German bank. Either way, it is a fun take on the music.

I’m don’t know if flashmobs have run their course, but it would be neat to actually see one evolve in person. Have a favorite song? Feel free to post it for today’s Music Monday challenge.

Autumn

It’s hard to believe that Fall is upon us with today being the first day of Autumn. The trees haven’t colored up much yet, but the show will start soon with their bright colors of red, orange, yellow, and yes brown.

I’ve been out early this morning refilling the hummingbird feeders. They are still around and are on their migration so activity is brisk. Now if only I could get the little creatures to be good and share without the constant bickering over who gets the feeders.

(Close your eyes Suzi) It’s also that time of year for all things involving pumpkin and pumpkin spice. Pies, cakes, breads, lattes, whatever you can think of to add those spices to warm the palette and the tummy. I feel in the mood to make something today. Overcast, chance of rain, seems like a perfect day to putter in the kitchen. But who knows, that mood might soon pass and I will be on to something else.

Whatever you have planned for the day, try and spend a moment of it out in nature. It won’t be long before the cold winds start blowing and the earth loses it’s vivid colors and sleeps for a bit.

A nap sounds good too for the day. Maybe I will try and squeeze in both.

Unstoppable

I could be unstoppable, if I could just get started! Morning bloggers, it’s another Monday and you know the drill.

For today I chose the song “Unstoppable” (by Sia), from the Wonder Woman movie. Nope, I haven’t seen the movie, but the video makes me tempted to look it up.

Feel free to post a song for today for Music Monday.

Remembering…

A Nation’s Strength

What makes a nation’s pillars high
And its foundations strong?
What makes it mighty to defy
The foes that round it throng?

It is not gold. Its kingdoms grand
Go down in battle shock;
Its shafts are laid on sinking sand,
Not on abiding rock.

Is it the sword? Ask the red dust
Of empires passed away;
The blood has turned their stones to rust,
Their glory to decay.

And is it pride? Ah, that bright crown
Has seemed to nations sweet;
But God has struck its luster down
In ashes at his feet.

Not gold but only men can make
A people great and strong;
Men who for truth and honor’s sake
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly…
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.
