Looping is something new. If I was in my 20’s today you can bet I would have one of these things to play with. Sam Perry is a genius at it, there are a few others in his category, I’ll post a few of them over time, but this guy simply has it down to a science.
Every noise you hear he makes with his voice, the machine adds effects and distortions to it. Essentially he is the whole band. In my view it’s absolutely stunning stuff, the industry has progressed so far from the 1970’s and anybody who thinks great music isn’t being created these days is simply listening to the wrong things.
I’ll have to wait until the household is awake to listen to this. I might get tossed out into the yard. A similar talent I have seen quite a bit lately is a one-man-quartet. One person sings all four parts and then combines them into a recording.
That is definitely cool!!! Very unique!!
To me it’s like watching Beethoven compose live on stage. He did have some backup instrumentation in some of those bigger productions, so it wasn’t all him all the time. But if you think about it, he is composing. He knows how all the sounds are going to fit together in his head, much like composing a classical piece for an orchestra. I liked this particular video because it worked at showing that.
The reason everybody was outclassed, and Boy George picked up on it, is they weren’t competing against another singer. They were competing against a modern day Beethoven.
That and Sam is thoroughly enjoying himself through the whole thing and it shows.
Yes! I liked the enthusiasm he was showing!
It’s amazing how much musically talented individuals have in common. My best Twitter friend once sang in a travelling group, is now the music leader for his church, is our age, grew up out in the boonies just a county away from me and is still very country oriented, and LOVES OPERA!!
Interesting stuff! I think some people are just “purists” when it comes to music. Everyone has their own preference. Makes me wish I was more musically inclined.
