P. Weston<\/a>. It was a signature song of the music hall star <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Champion\">Harry Champion<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Brown_(singer)\">Joe Brown<\/a> included the song on his first album <em>A Picture of You<\/em> in 1962. In <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1965_in_music\">1965<\/a>, it became the fastest-selling song in history to that point when it was revived by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Herman&apos;s_Hermits\">Herman&#8217;s Hermits<\/a>,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/I%27m_Henery_the_Eighth,_I_Am#cite_note-MacInnes-3\">\u00a0<\/a><\/sup>becoming the group&#8217;s second number-one on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billboard_Hot_100\"><em>Billboard<\/em> Hot 100<\/a> chart, dethroning &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/(I_Can&apos;t_Get_No)_Satisfaction\">(I Can&#8217;t Get No) Satisfaction<\/a>&#8221; by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Rolling_Stones\">the Rolling Stones<\/a>. Despite that success, the single was not released in the UK. The Herman&#8217;s Hermits version is a very short song, one of the shortest ever to be a number-one single in the US.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In the well-known chorus, Henery explains that his wife had been married seven times before, each time to another Henery:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m &#8216;Enery the Eighth, I am,<br>&#8216;Enery the Eighth I am, I am!<br>I got married to the widow next door,<br>She&#8217;s been married seven times before<br>And every one was an &#8216;Enery<br>She wouldn&#8217;t have a Willie nor a Sam<br>I&#8217;m her eighth old man named &#8216;Enery<br>&#8216;Enery the Eighth, I am!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>However, in the Hermits&#8217; version, Peter Noone ends each chorus with &#8220;I&#8217;m her eighth old man, I&#8217;m &#8216;Enery&#8221; and never sings &#8220;named&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>. . . . &#8220;I&#8217;m Henery the Eighth, I Am&#8221; (also &#8220;I&#8217;m Henery the VIII, I Am&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;m Henry VIII, I Am&#8221;; spelled &#8220;Henery&#8221; but pronounced &#8220;&#8216;Enery&#8221; in the Cockney style normally used to sing it) is a 1910 British music hall song by Fred Murray and R.
