It was first released on his 1974 album\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Living_&amp;_Dying_in_%C2%BE_Time\">Living &amp; Dying in \u00be Time<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" id=\"mwEA\"><strong>Buffett wrote the song to his future wife while he was on tour.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Come_Monday#cite_note-2\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/sup>At a live performance in 1974, Buffett mentioned that he had written the song heading out to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/California\">California<\/a>\u00a0the previous year, meaning that it would have been written as he was &#8220;heading up to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Francisco\">San Francisco<\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labor_Day\">Labor Day<\/a>\u00a0weekend show&#8221; in\u00a01973. He\u00a0opened those weekend shows in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marin_County,_California\">Marin County<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Country_Joe_McDonald\">Country Joe McDonald<\/a>\u00a0at the Lion&#8217;s Share club in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Anselmo,_California\">San Anselmo<\/a>\u00a0and the song was written at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howard_Johnson's\">Howard Johnson&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0that Buffett was staying at in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mill_Valley,_California\">Mill\u00a0Valley<\/a>.
